September Mid-Month Catch Up

Posted by Erica

Good morning my blogging friends. I hope you all are well. I thought today would be perfect for a catch-up blog for my quilts and creativity.

All is well in Ericaland. The sun is shining, the grass is green, and the coffee is sweet. I recently finished another quilt top called Live Boldly by Charisma Horton, so be on the lookout for that post. It’ll drop soon. I dropped it off today for the quilting process. I had Kristy the consultant help me again. For this quilt, I wanted to focus on the brightly colored triangles in the stars of the quilt. I mean I took the time to sew them and line them up, so you bet your bottom dollar that I wanted to focus the quilting on them. So we decided that Modern Twist would be the perfect quilt design to use.

Also, I decided to use wool instead of cotton for this quilt. Wool is a bit warmer but it also breathes, so its a win-win. There isn’t much price difference between the two, so why not give it a try? For thread color, we decided to use a variegated silver thread on the top and silver in the bobbin. It’s a 40-weight, 2-ply polyester thread. It holds up well and has a nice sheen. I think it will pop on the backing so that the pattern really shows. Speaking of backing, I decided to go with navy blue with a bright orange binding. Cute right? Of course, you guys know that I will share it with you once I get it back.

The quilt shop currently has a 10-week backlog of quilts, as they get them from all over the country. My quilt is scheduled to be finished around November 26, which is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I’m excited, however, this quilt is one I will not be keeping. This quilt will be the first one that I will be giving away. Don’t worry, it’s going to a family member as a Christmas present. I hope they appreciate the creativity and hard work that went into

My goal is/was to make and give everyone a handmade quilt for Christmas. I mean I can usually knock out a quilt top in two weeks, from start to finish. This of course depends on the complexity of the pattern and the number of colors in the quilt. I was trying to get the majority of the quilts done by the end of October so that they could all be quilted by Christmas. Unfortunately, everyone has the same idea, so some people will get their quilts after the holidays. I think they will understand as long as I give them pictures of their forthcoming quilts.

Updates will be posted. Stay Tuned.

Stay creative!
