2021 in a Nutshell

Posted by Erica

2022 is a mere 10 days away. Crazy how this year flew by. The Pandemic made it that way. The entire year was spent in a pandemic. That’s crazy. As I type this, the Omicron variant is rapidly making it way through the countries and popping fears back up. Let’s move to something happier. Let’s recap this past year.

I started the year the same as always, in bed enjoying the day off while watching the Rose Parade. Day 1 of each new year is always a good day. Its after that, that stuff starts going downhill and getting crazy. I told myself I was going to be in a new job making more money and doing more things. The Pandemic totally screwed that up, but hey, it’s two fold. The pandemic allowed me to not only save more money but also to work multiple jobs and get even more out of debt.

2021 started me off with 3 credit cards having high balances. A mortgage that appears to barely be decreasing, and a fully paid off car. I was also working three jobs (my full-time job, dog sitting, and amazon driving), and studying for the many CPA Exams. Man writing this out makes it seem like 2021 started out as stressful. For the world, the pandemic has been a major burden. Loss of jobs, money, and family members. I thankfully haven’t lost anyone. I am ending the year with 2 credit cards have balances, one of them with a high limit, a new car, a refinanced mortgage, and two CPA exams in the first three months of the year. More on these things to come.

The Amazon driving has really been paying off for me. However since I purchased my new car, I’ve been cutting back and that has really hit my pockets hard. I’m trying not to put a lot of mileage on my new car, especially one that takes a lot of gas and gets bad mileage. I’m hopeful that my dog sitting can pick up. I’m also going to continue my amazon driving, but I’m going to be more selective with my routes.

I refinanced my mortgage back in June. I’m glad I did. My original rate was in the 4s and now my new rate is in the 2s. I also cut 5 years off my mortgage. This means my mortgage will increase but will be paid off a lot quicker. Wanna hear something crazy? The same day that I signed the refinance paperwork is the same day that I hit a deer with my paid off car. Yeah I know. Crazy.

I am retaking the Financial Accounting and Reporting CPA exam in January and the Auditing exam in March. I am ready for this, this time around. I have to retake the FAR exam because I didn’t pass all 4 exams in 18 months. I passed one. I failed 3 in the same 18 month time frame. I’m frustrated that this is the length I have to go to just to get even with the men I work with. Men who have the exact same degrees as me and the same work experience.

Moving on. 2022 is the year of the tiger. I was born in the year of the tiger, so I am taking that as a sign that I need to find a new job. I want to be a financial analyst but I am finding it harder and harder to break into the field with little experience. How can I get experience when I can’t even get my damn foot in the door. The only jobs I can find are the same ones that I’m currently stuck. Who wants to work AP forever? I sure as hell don’t. I’ve even told recruiters this multiple times, but they don’t seem to be hearing me.

Anyhoo be on the lookout for more blogs in 2022. I plan to stay on it in the future. Besides I have a feeling 2022 is going to be my year and I want to keep it well documented.
