Peloton. Yep, if you haven’t heard the name, you either don’t have a tv or you’ve been living under a rock. Or both, if that’s possible (underground bunker perhaps). What is it, you ask? Well its an indoor stationary cycling bicycle with a large touchscreen attached. Like the bikes at the gym only this one is at home. It also allows you to join a live class or hundreds if not thousands of on-demand classes ranging from ab workouts to mediation. It also allows you to track your progress. If you’re a competitor like myself, it even provides a leaderboard for you to chart on. That’s so me.
I have been on the fence for a long time about buying one. Where would I put it? How would I pay for it? Will I ever use it? etc. Finally one day, I sat down and took the time to review the website and learn everything I could about the bike. I watched YouTube videos, read reviews and blogs. You name it, I did it. Even signed up to try it in store, but due to Covid, this had to be done well in advance. This made me want one more. I also learned they had a payment plan one could use with the company affirm. Next thing I know, I done up and purchased a Peloton Bike and I didn’t even know it. I know your saying “how the hell didn’t you know you were purchasing a bike. Well hear me out.
So I selected the bike I wanted on the website, then proceeded to select the accessories I wanted (shoes, weight of the weights, and earbuds). I did this to see how much everything would cost including tax (shipping is free). I get to the end and the website says they offer payments through Affirm, with a 0% APR. I went through the process to see how much my monthly payments would be and next thing I see is “Congratulations on the purchase of your new peloton bike. We will contact you about the delivery of your bike.” I was like what the … I’d like to think it was my subconscious making the decision that I kept putting off. Two days later I got an email saying my bike would be delivered May 1. Just in time for my 35th birthday. Perfect.
So some information on the bike. It is made of carbon, steel, and aluminum. It has a flywheel on the front that is weighted. It is used to control the level of resistance you want for your ride. Turn to the right, the resistance goes up and the ride gets more difficult. Turn to the left, resistance goes down and the ride feels like you’re going downhill. I like those. It has two cup holders, a 21.5″ 1080 HD touchscreen and a 10 watt sound system. Its 4′ long and 2′ feet. That’s nothing. I kid you not, I thought it was bigger than that. Must be all the commercials making me think that. I don’t need to see it in high-rise apartment complex made of all glass or in a mega mansion on the coast. The seat is adjustable in two ways (left/right and front/back) and so is the handlebars and the touchscreen. Everything is designed so that it can be personalized to every individual, including the clip in shoes.
I’m excited to get the bike to test it out. Now I just need to find somewhere to put it.
More to come. Stay tuned
