Well March is nearly over and I figured I would give an update on my debt since I failed to give one for the month of February. I stated that I wanted to pay off my second credit card by the end of February. Sadly, that didn’t happen, however I did pay it off the first week of March. I am now down to two credit cards with balances. I cannot begin to tell you how good this feels to be this ever close to paying off my credit card debt. Earlier this week, I got the idea to ask for a credit limit increase on the one card of mine that has the lowest interest rate. And they granted it. Whoo. So I transferred the balance from the American Express, which has the highest interest rate of all my cards, to a local card. I am saving 13.24% a month. That’s crazy and it puts a smile on my face. This will allow me to pay my card off faster by paying so much less interest. I can tell you one thing that I have noticed, once I start getting the balance low on my cards, the card company either calls me or sends me “spending” emails. Like hell no, I’m done with using credit irresponsibility. Besides why use credit cards when there is no incentive to do so. Are they decreasing the rate? No. Are they providing me with finance classes to help me use credit responsibly? Hell no. So again, no incentive to use credit.
I’m so looking forward to making my last credit card payment at the end of the year. This has been a few years in the making. I have been working a few jobs in addition to my full time job to make this happen. I dog sit, I deliver amazon packages, and I sew face masks. Unfortunately if it wasn’t for the pandemic, I wouldn’t be this far into my credit card payoffs. Due to the pandemic, I have been working from home and this has allowed me to do the various side hustles as soon as my full time work day ends. Amazon has been the true savior, as it pays me on average $18 an hour and I typically work three hours a day whenever I want. And it pays twice a week. I say unfortunately because other people have not been as fortune as I have been during this pandemic. So I have been fortunate and lucky. Also March is my company’s year end and since I am a member of the finance department, that means 12-14 hour days and massive overtime. More money to help pay down the remaining credit cards I have.
More to come next month. Until then, keep saving
