New Year’s Resolutions

Posted by Erica

Typically I make the same resolutions every year. I want to stop biting my nails, get into better shape, take better care of myself, and try to do more adventurous things. Last year, 2015, I managed to knock two of that list. My nails are thriving and growing and they are amazing. They are even starting to get out of control. I even get upset when they break. This is a clear transition from who i used to be. I was a habitual nail biter. I would bite what little nail I had on my fingers, then i would bite the skin. Yeah i was that bad. Sometimes they would bleed. It got so bad I couldn’t even pick up a coin from a table or floor. Yeah it was that bad.

As for the getting in shape, it was perfect. I joined the title boxing club in Cary, Nc and it was perfect. That place is worth the $89/month fee. They are open 7 days a week. 5 of those days they open at 6am and close at 8pm. Classes are one hour. Let me be clear, there is no slacking off in those classes, there is no easy mode, there is no “warm-up” so to speak. If its a workout you want, you best believe you are going to get one and its going to be brutal but definitely well worth it. I unfortunately had to stop going because I got a new job and it didn’t take me past the gym anymore. I would love to get back to it though. Boxing clubs in Durham are either too expensive or you pay for boxing and you have to sign up for the classes in advance. I got spoiled at Title Boxing Club. I’m thinking about going back but the traffic to get there after work would be hellish. So with that being said, its my apartment gym that I will be going to to work on my arms again. Problem though. I’m self conscious. I like to work out when there is no one around so that I can read through the workout regimen without anyone looking at me.

I want to get into my finances into order too. I want to be able to purchase a home or at least be saving for one by the time the lease on my apartment is up, which is in late September. I was even thinking about taking some money from my 401k to spend on a down payment for a house. Depending on the loan, I could put about 3%-4% down and get a house but my house won’t be large or massively expensive because I know I can’t afford it. I want a maximum 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house. I want a decent sized kitchen and living room. One of the bedrooms will be a library. I am a major reader. The second bedroom would be a guest room. I don’t want a huge yard that I will have to mow every week. I am a fan of the American Craftsman style and the bungalow style.

P.S. There will be more to come this year. I promise.
